What is your overall goal for the Gala Dinner? Our major goal is to raise money for those who are seriously ill in our community. Our second goal is to provide a magical night of awesome entertainment, fantastic food and great company. Our most memorable part of the night is when we honor those we have lost – to have people you have never met walk up and hug you and comfort each other is extremely touching. We have all been affected by this and it’s important to remember exactly why we are supporting Charity Begins at Home.

Where does the money go? As a supporter you will be glad to know that no money raised at any of our events or fundraising activities goes into administration. Our local committee does not receive a cent from the charity. Each year at our Gala dinner we have to cover costs which include, hall hire, equipment hire, entertainment, alcohol, and catering. Many local businesses come forward to offer the items and services that we need to run the event, free of charge or in a sponsorship capacity.

How many families has MCBAH helped? Since 2008 we have financially given $1,602,000 to 163 local Midwest families in their financial struggle through serious illness, due to the extraordinary compassion and generosity of Midwest locals and businesses. The more sponsorship and donations of auction items we receive from the community, the more we raise and the more we give out. It's thanks to Midwest locals and businesses that we were able to increase our recipients by so much each year.

Does the money stay in the Midwest? We are committed in helping people in the Midwest and all the money raised goes to those in need in the Midwest. It could be your friend, neighbour or a person you pass on the street.

Does Charity Begins at Home hold other events throughout the year? We welcome suggestions from local businesses and groups to assist us with our fundraising efforts throughout the year. See our Events page if you are interested in holding an event, or would like to attend a fundraising event.

It has been dubbed one of the Midwest’s biggest charity events, is the support from the community a big factor in that? Absolutely – the community is the only reason this event is such a success. From day one, local businesses who expected nothing back have continued to support the Charity. Now we make it our priority to ensure those businesses get a good return for their sponsorship dollar and plenty of exposure on the night. They also appreciate the fact that all money raised stays in the Midwest.

Tell me about your volunteers? Two days prior to the event and the day after we have our amazing husbands, kids, Nana's and Pops, all pitching in for the setting up, cleaning and generally doing whatever they can to help us make the night special. We also have a huge amount of volunteers who jump on board to help as our committee of 8 people can’t pull off this event by themselves. We only wish we could fit 1000 people into a function centre in Geraldton!

How do I nominate someone to be a recipient? If you know someone who is seriously ill in our community, and would like to nominate them as a recipient, then we would love to hear from you.
